Most of General Z and Millennia are in the ‘constant’ condition of concern: survey

One in 10 American young people sets “time of concern”, according to new research.

The survey of the 2,000 general US population found that 10% of young Americans (Gen Z and millennia respondents) set a specific time on their day to worry.

This is compared to only 3% of elderly Americans (Gen X and Baby Boomers) surveyed.

The survey asked the respondents why they set the “time of concern” – or why they would consider doing so (38%) – and discovered a number of benefits.

Respondents said this helps to reduce the time they spend on worrying and allowing them to manage their anxiety.

Having a certain time to worry will also help with mental health as well as limiting the impact of stress on their lives and worrying about things outside their control.

Performed by Talker Research on behalf of the Avocado’s green mattress before Earth Day in April, the survey also seemed more generally in “concern” and the impact it has on the lives of Americans.

Forty-seven percent of respondents said they feel like they are in a state of “constant” concern-and that was much more common for young respondents.

Six in 10 (62%) of the respondents of General Z and the millennium agreed with this, against 38% of Gen X and Baby Boomers responded.

And the results found that the average respondent worries for two hours and 18 minutes a day.

When asked when on the day they tend to worry more, one -third said they are worried when they are alone (33%).

Thirty percent also consider themselves disturbing before falling asleep, while others said their concern tends to be hit when they wake up in the morning (17%) or when they are preparing for bed (12%).

“Concern not only affects our mentality – it can also get a real number in our sleep,” said Brooke Witt, Marketing VP on the Green Avocado mattress. “When our thoughts are preoccupied with our finances, family or lists to do, it can be more difficult to fall asleep and stay asleep, which affects how resting we feel the next day.

“We know how important quality sleep is for overall well -being, and we are committed to helping people create a space for rest, even in the most busy, stressful moments of life.”

Respondents were asked what worries as they fall asleep, and the survey revealed their finances (53%), their family (42%) and the things they should take care of (42%) were the top three concerns.

This was followed by their health (37%), taking enough sleep (22%) and the current political situation (19%).

Over half of the respondents responded are parents, and they were specifically asked about their concerns about their children.

What do the respondents worry about while falling asleep?

  • Finance – 53%
  • My family – 42%
  • Things I should take care of – 42%
  • My health – 37%
  • Taking enough sleep – 22%
  • Current Political Politics/Situation – 19%
  • Work – 17%
  • My pets – 13%
  • Climate change (and climate change impacts) – 6%

Seventy -seven percent of the surveyed parents said they are concerned about the world in which their child is growing up.

And 34% of parents specifically called by climate change, saying they believe that climate change will limit the options of their children.

One parent said, “I honestly, worry that there will be no world for my child to grow up” while another does not “believe [my children] I’ll see and experience the things I did growing up. “

“There is always something in our minds – whether work, family or concerns about the future,” said Amy Sieman, Avocado Green Mattress manager. “This research underlines how much they can follow those daily concerns, affecting both our sleep and our daily lives.

“We believe the rest of the quality is essential to feel our best, and we are proud to help support a quieter and restorative night restorers.”
